Week 25

Partners In Crime and Spreadsheets

2 February 2025

Introducing our new "partners in crime",  Elder and Sister Hancey from Layton. They will be a great addition to our team. They are quick studies and very happy and positive. We hope to do justice to their training and education. Their arrival is very timely. We are very busy.

This spreadsheet represents probably about 80 hours of work.  Every communication director from the pacific area is included as we have worked through church authorized travel agency (not my favorite vendor) to schedule air, ground transportation, hotel and meals. They are invited to the annual communication seminar in March.   Couldn't get the whole spreadsheet in the picture.   But, we did it and now we are just down to figuring out all their visas and their reimbursements.

Look who dropped by our office, KC and Judy! Kelly's brother and sister-in-law serve in the same mission but we never see each other unless we make the time to do so. They serve a MLS/Pathway mission which is a very busy and time consuming job. We admire their dedication. We love every chance to be with them.

I love these women. I love learning from them! They are great examples of Christ-like living and good friends.

The next few pictures are of our excursion to the "Night Market". It was a cultural feast! Too bad we ate before we came. I did enjoy a cup of strawberries with chocolate. I'm sure it was inspired by Borough Market in London.

So every Fast Sunday, our ward holds a single adult linger-longer dinner. (Actually we are not lingering. We make the trek back to the ward building in the evening, but who is complaining?)  Great people helping and supporting each other. This sister was fascinating to talk to. She has a strong family of Maori ancestors. I love learning about their culture. They have a great love for family.

Our ward just got a set of sister missionaries in addition to our elders.   Those in Middleton might recognize Sister Hurdman.   She is from Middleton and knew everyone we knew.   Such great missionaries.

Launette:  While reading Elder David L Buckner's talk on "Ye Are My Friends", I connected with his comments when he said, "The Savior's declaration 'ye are my friends' is a clarion call to build higher and holier relationships among all of God's children". This is exactly what we are being trained to do. I hear this in everything we write and speak. Our boss, Rich Hunter, has taught us to not say 3rd world, but under developed countries. We have learned phrases like "we invite friends of the Church to the open house" better yet, "we would like to invite our friends from other religions to the open house. I am learning to be inclusive and loving in my words. Now...the real challenge is to apply the principle I am learning about CHARITY in Preach My Gospel and combine what I am learning to say to how I truly feel. I want to love the way I am writing and speaking. I thought I would share one of my goals.

We love and miss you all!

Love,

Elder and Sister Shaw
